Symphony of Love: A Violinist’s Wedding

Emily and Michael’s Musical Austin Wedding

Music is the heartbeat of Austin, the Live Music Capital of the World. Emily, a very talented violinist, married the love of her life, Michael, and music was the central note at their Austin wedding. Surrounded by the charm of Rose Haven’s lush gardens and elegant spaces, the violinist’s wedding was a symphony of love, personal touches, and joyful celebration.

A Ceremony in Bloom on the Antique Rose Veranda

The beautiful wedding ceremony on the Antique Rose Veranda at austin wedding venue rose haven event venue

Michael and Emily chose the Antique Rose Veranda for their outdoor ceremony, and it couldn’t have been more breathtaking. Climbing antique roses and lush morning glory vines framed the couple during the ceremony with the beautiful perennial gardens as a backdrop. The weather was perfect for the ceremony, and the gentle breeze seemed to whisper blessings over the couple as they exchanged vows in front of friends and family. The natural beauty of the Veranda paired with the romance of the surrounding rose gardens provided a serene yet picturesque environment for their love to blossom.

    Charming Personal Touches

Michael and Emily’s wedding was full of creative and personal details that reflected their love story.

Preceding the ceremony, real lavender rose petals were strewn with such joy. Look how much fun they were having! And so were the guests, as many also had rose petals scattered on them as well!

Emily wore bright royal blue shoes with her wedding dress, adding the perfect pop of color. Their officiant also wore a royal blue dress for the perfect match.

The Reception in Heritage Rose Hall

After the heartfelt ceremony, guests moved to the Heritage Rose Hall for a lively and unforgettable reception. Decorated by Events by Poppy & Co in shades of lavender and purple accented with greenery, a classic color palette that perfectly complemented the charm of Rose Haven. Peak Beverage got the party started quickly with their expert bartender with a fun personality.

One of the most magical moments of the evening came when Emily, an accomplished violinist, serenaded her guests. As part of a stunning trio with two of her wedding party members, Emily played beautiful melodies that filled the hall with an intimate, heartfelt ambiance. Then she performed a solo as she walked gracefully up the middle of Heritage Rose Hall, violin in hand, playing to each of her guests as they looked on in awe. It was a truly memorable and unique touch that added a deeply personal and elegant element to the celebration, highlighting Emily’s talent and making the evening feel even more special.

The reception kicked off with the help of Bat City Beats, rocking the perfect soundtrack for the evening, ensuring the dance floor stayed packed all night. The music set the tone for a fun and festive evening, whether it was the newlyweds’ first dance or the energetic celebration that followed,.

Delicious Catering by Chuy’s and Rose Haven

The couple opted for a delicious and festive menu from Chuy’s, bringing a taste of Austin’s beloved Tex-Mex cuisine to their celebration. The chips and queso rocked the cocktail hour treat, and the overflowing fajita bar, including their crowd-favorite creamy jalapeño dip, was a huge hit.

The dessert table was created in house by Christy Seguin, owner of Rose Haven. Chocolate, Vanilla, and Red Velvet cupcakes. Snickerdoodle and Chocolate Chip cookies. All made from scratch with lots of real butter. The display table featured a faux cake centerpiece with the desserts flanking it, with beautiful floral accents in the color palette.

    Capturing Every Moment

The talented Matthew Chambers of Matthew Chambers Photography captured the magic of the day. From the special moments of getting ready to the emotional moments during the ceremony and the joy-filled reception, Matthew’s photos beautifully documented the violinist’s wedding. Creative touches like collaborating with Rose Haven to use their antique wire dress form, along with Emily’s violin and blue shoes, to elevate the wedding dress photos are a hallmark of Matthew’s style.

If you don’t like the weather in Texas, just wait 5 minutes

The wedding day could not have been more perfect weather. But ominous clouds started rolling in, and suddenly rain poured down during the reception. Fortunately, one of Rose Haven’s best features is its comfortable climate-controlled spaces for a built-in weather plan! The party paused for a second to be grateful for rain in our normally parched Texas Hill Country, and went right back to having a great time! The Antique Rose Veranda looked beautiful with the lights glistening in the rain!

    A Day to Remember

Michael and Emily’s wedding at Rose Haven was a true celebration of love, filled with laughter, joy, and unforgettable moments. Emily’s violin performance, the stunning decor, and the personal touches made this violinist’s wedding truly one-of-a-kind. We were honored to be part of their special day and wish them a lifetime of happiness.

Wedding Memorial Ideas for Austin Couples

How are Austin, Dripping Springs, and Texas Hill Country couples honoring loved ones who have passed away?

If you’re planning your wedding in the Austin area and want to find heartfelt ways to keep your loved ones close in spirit, this guide is here to help. With meaningful tributes, you can honor their memory and make them a part of your special day.

Why Honor Loved Ones at Your Wedding?

Including a tribute for those who have passed on can bring comfort and connection to your wedding day. It offers a tender way to acknowledge their influence in your life and share their memory with your closest family and friends. Here are some thoughtful wedding memorial ideas to honor your loved ones that will resonate with the warmth of the Texas Hill Country’s welcoming atmosphere.

    1. Create a Memory Table

A memory table is a beautiful way to hold space for those who cannot be with you in person. Choose a quiet, intimate spot at your venue to display cherished photographs, mementos, or items that remind you of your loved ones. Add touches like candles, wildflowers from a local Austin or Texas Hill Country farm, and maybe a favorite poem or quote that captures their spirit.

    Tips for Your Memory Table:

    • Select a peaceful corner of your reception area, perhaps overlooking Austin’s scenic views.
    • Use a mix of formal and candid photos to reflect different moments in their lives.
    • Using all wedding photos makes for a stunning, cohesive display
    • Add personal items, like a favorite book, personal item, or a piece of jewelry, to make the display more personal and touching.
    • Create a sign explaining the significance of the table for guests.

    2. Reserve a Seat in Their Honor

Reserving a seat at your ceremony is a simple yet profound way to acknowledge their presence in your heart. Place a framed photo on the chair, along with a single bloom or a small keepsake that was meaningful to them.

    Tips for Reserving a Seat:

    • Choose a front-row seat to symbolize their importance in your life.
    • Decorate the chair with a small bouquet of florals, or perhaps with their favorite scarf or hat.
    • Include a note on the seat explaining the dedication, or add their name to your wedding program.

    3. Lighting a Candle in Remembrance

Lighting a candle during your ceremony or at your reception is a symbolic way to honor your loved one’s eternal presence. It can create a moment of reflection during your wedding, offering a quiet connection to their memory amidst the festivities.

    Tips for Candle Lighting:

    • Coordinate with your officiant to incorporate the candle lighting into your ceremony, or with your DJ to include it later during the reception.
    • Choose a special candle holder, perhaps something passed down in your family or unique from one of Austin’s many artisan markets.
    • Invite additional family members or guests to join you in lighting the candle as a collective tribute.

    4. Dedicate a Section of Your Program

Including a special note or memory in your wedding program is another beautiful way to acknowledge those who have passed. Whether you share a favorite quote, a cherished memory, or simply their name, it allows guests to feel connected to their legacy.

    Tips for Personalizing Your Program:

    • Use a high-quality photo to ensure clarity and brightness.
    • Share a brief biography or a heartfelt memory that highlights their significance in your life.
    • Explain how their memory has shaped your relationship or wedding day.

    5. Play Their Favorite Song

Music holds a powerful emotional connection, and playing a song that was meaningful to your loved one can bring their spirit into your celebration. Whether it’s during the ceremony or reception, music can carry the essence of their presence.

    Tips for Playing Their Song:

    • Have the DJ or MC mention the significance of the song before it begins, inviting guests to reflect.
    • Choose a quiet moment when everyone can listen and be present in the tribute.
    • One of our recent couples held a group dance to the loved ones’ song while holding pictures of them. It was such a moving tribute.

Incorporating a small keepsake from your loved one into your wedding attire can provide a sense of closeness. Whether it’s a piece of jewelry, a locket, or a handkerchief tucked into your bouquet or suit pocket, this small gesture can have a profound emotional impact.

    Tips for Incorporating a Memento:

    • Choose something lightweight that complements your attire and style.
    • Consider tucking a small photo or charm into your bouquet, or wearing a meaningful piece of jewelry.
    • Share the story behind the item with close friends and family, making the tribute even more special.
    • Many Etsy shops and local artisans can custom craft a memorial for you, and it will be something you treasure forever

Here’s How to Crush Wedding Planning in the First 30 Days After Getting Engaged in Austin!

    1. Share the News

Before you rush into wedding planning, take a moment to savor the engagement. Share the exciting news with your closest family and friends first. Consider how you’d like to announce your engagement to the wider circle—through a social media post, mailing out cute announcements, sending digital announcements, or even throw a fun engagement party!

    2. Set a Date (or a Range)

One of the first questions people will ask is, “When’s the big day?” While you don’t need to have an exact date immediately, having a rough idea can help during the initial planning stages. Consider the season, the venue availability, and any special dates that are meaningful to you as a couple.

In Austin and Central Texas, considering the season is VITALLY important! Weather is a huge factor here. It’s HOT. Miserably hot during the summer and into fall. Storms can wreak havoc. Big events like South by Southwest, Austin City Limits, F1 Races, and big Texas home football games can dramatically affect your wedding logistics and planning. Our blog on Fall Weddings offers helpful hints on our–hands down–most popular wedding season.

    3. Discuss Your Wedding Budget

The foundation of your wedding planning should be your budget, and must be established first. Sit down with your partner to have an honest and open discussion about how much you’re willing and able to spend. You also may need to have a conversation with your parents or other people who may be willing to help with wedding expenses. Your budget will guide all other decisions, from the venue to the guest list.

Most couples have no idea of how much to budget for all the elements necessary to host an event, because they have never hosted one! This is where a wedding planner is so incredibly helpful, as they can give you expert guidance on how to allocate your budget properly.

At the end of the day, a wedding is just an event, with extra elements specific to the wedding that don’t happen at regular parties and other events. There’s a feeling out there that vendors gouge couples just because it’s a wedding, but mostly that’s not true. ALL events are expensive, not going to lie! For example, catering a fajita bar, BBQ, or prime rib buffet will be the same price per person, regardless of what kind of event where it is served. Most other expenses are the same regardless of the event, and are simply based on the amount of guests and costs/work involved.

Some vendors do MUCH more for weddings than they do for other parties–like DJs for example. Their wedding responsibilities are FAR greater and more crucial to the timeline of a wedding than just playing bumping music at a party, so yes the extra work means extra expense. Weddings have some elements that don’t happen at most events, like the bridal and bridesmaid bouquets, the wedding dress and veil, special ceremony floral arches and aisle decor, etc. Those drive the overall cost up more than a similar-sized event, but it is not ‘gouging’.

Remember to account for unexpected expenses (which WILL happen!) by setting aside a small contingency fund.

    4. Start a Guest List

Drafting a preliminary guest list will help you decide on the size of the venue and overall scale of the wedding. It doesn’t have to be final, but having a rough estimate is crucial in the early planning stages. Discuss who you’d like to invite and consider any family obligations. Think about who will need to travel in from out of town and how likely they are to attend.

In the Austin and especially the Dripping Springs/Hill Country “Wedding Capital of Texas” area, we have a huge percentage of destination weddings, and our couples are often surprised at how many of their guests will travel for the wedding. But Austin and the Texas Hill Country are a huge tourist draw anyway, so many guests will jump at the chance to come and stay a few extra days to enjoy our gorgeous countryside, fun activities, and amazing amenities!

Does your budget allow for a big bash of a few hundred guests? Or will you need to keep the guest list very small? The absolute best way to save on the budget for a wedding is to limit the guest list, but that can create emotional issues and very tough decisions. Decide whether you will allow children or not, as they do count as a guest for budget purposes.

    5. Research Venues

Your venue will set the tone for your wedding day, so start researching locations as early as possible. Do you envision a chic Downtown Austin hotel, a Texas Hill Country retreat, a historical setting, a rustic barn, a Lake Austin view, or a glamorous ballroom?

How many guests will you need to accommodate? You don’t want your venue to be either too cramped or too big so everything looks lost in a giant room.

Does your venue have a rain and weather plan? You may be dreaming of an outdoor ceremony, but that can be very tricky in the Austin area. The heat is no secret, and always the first consideration. We can have terrible storms pop up with no warning. Thunderstorms with huge hail and tornados have been a problem in Central Texas over the past few years. Carefully consider a weather plan.

What does your budget allow? Be sure to thoroughly research what is included with each venue rental, so you’re comparing apples to apples. The venue rental may be just the start, and some have a lot of hidden fees that may cause budget issues later. Some require big food and beverage minimums and that you use only their vendors. Some include tables, chairs, and other rentals, and some do not.

Even with a limited budget, you can still curate a luxury wedding experience. For example, Chapel Dulcinea, a stunning Tuscan-style wedding chapel on a hill with breathtaking views, can actually be FREE if certain parameters are met. Rose Haven is a preferred reception venue partner of Chapel Dulcinea. It’s a perfect combination! Many of our couples hold an intimate ceremony at the chapel, and then a larger reception here at Rose Haven, less than ten minutes away. Or you can enjoy your ceremony in our beautiful rose gardens, then come inside to our comfortable climate-controlled venue and eat, drink, and dance the night away!

Once you’ve narrowed down your options, schedule visits to see them in person. There is no substitute for experiencing the venue yourself. Each one has a different vibe, and you will find the one that resonates with your heart.

Your venue often will have a thoroughly vetted and experienced preferred vendor list to share with you once you’ve booked, and those resources are invaluable to the rest of your planning.

    6. Hiring a Wedding Planner

Hiring a wedding planner can save you time and stress, and very often—money. Planners bring expertise, vendor connections, and can ensure everything runs smoothly by knowing how to craft perfect timelines and coordinate vendors. They have seen hundreds of weddings and crazy scenarios that can pop up, and know how to avoid issues before they even arise. They will also think of MANY things that you would never even have thought to consider, because they are well-schooled in the logistics of events as well as the aesthetics.

engaged in austin couple with wedding planner. wedding coordinator, day of coordinator, engagement, wedding planning, austin wedding venue, texas wedding venue, dripping springs wedding venue, georgetown texas wedding venue, cheap wedding venue, affordable wedding venue, budget wedding venue,

The prices of wedding planners are often a sticker shock at first, but the value and peace of mind they provide is priceless. And by expertly guiding you on your budget allocation, they may even save you enough money to offset the cost. Even if you choose not to hire one for the full planning process, a month-of coordinator is crucial. The venue coordinator is NOT your day-of coordinator. They are there to ensure everything works well from the venue side, but your timeline, vendors, guests, etc are not their responsibility. It’s important that you have your own planner who knows YOUR wedding inside and out.

Interview several planners, check their references and reviews carefully, talk to former clients if possible, and most importantly see how well you relate to them. They should be like a really knowledgeable best friend with your best wedding day experience at heart.

    7. Create a Vision Board

To make your dream wedding a reality, you need to visualize it first. Create a vision board with wedding themes, color palettes, and decor ideas that resonate with your personal style. Platforms like Pinterest can be a treasure trove of inspiration.

    8. Book a Photographer

Photographers can book up fast, especially ones in high demand, so it’s wise to start your search early. Look for photographers whose style matches your vision and check their availability for your chosen dates.

Definitely review their portfolios, social media accounts, website galleries, and read reviews. And again, a great photographer will become a good friend during your wedding planning and on your wedding day.

    9. Choose Your Wedding Party

Decide on who you want to be in your wedding party. These are the friends and family members you want by your side throughout the planning process and on the big day. Once chosen, you can start discussing responsibilities and involving them in planning.

    10. Explore Wedding Insurance

While not the most glamorous part of planning, wedding insurance can provide peace of mind. Look into coverage options that protect against unforeseen circumstances like venue/vendor cancellations, weather issues or travel disruptions. Many venues have started to require it, as it’s so affordable and covers wedding-specific issues that nothing else will cover–like your florals being damaged, or catering not arriving. You should purchase your insurance as soon as you have booked your venue. Rose Haven does require wedding insurance, and we have a specific proprietary link on our website to easily obtain it.

  • How to Plan a Fall Wedding in Austin and the Texas Hill Country

How to Plan a Fall Wedding in Austin and the Texas Hill Country

Are you dreaming of a Fall wedding? Fall is the most popular time to get married in the Austin and Texas Hill Country area. October seems to be by far the busiest wedding month. But the season seems to stretch from mid-September til mid-December, before the Christmas craziness kicks into high gear.

The rich autumn colors and natural beauty make it a perfect season for a wedding. The skies are so blue and the sunsets tend to be epic. Central Texas doesn’t usually have as much vibrant Fall color as other areas, as the predominant trees are more evergreen, but many native plants bloom their most beautiful in the Fall, and there is more variation in tree color than in the summer. Many people automatically associate Fall with cooler temperatures, but in Central Texas, that is rarely the case. When a couple says to me, “It will be cooler in the Fall.” I generally joke back at them, “Yes…….in New England! Not here!” Here is more like Summer with Pumpkin Spice.

austin texas wedding venue fall color on the antique rose veranda, affordable budget cheap wedding venue dripping springs hill country austin bride dripping springs bride
Lovely Fall Color on the Antique Rose Veranda at Rose Haven

I saw a great meme on Facebook recently where someone had posted in a group saying they were traveling to Texas in August and asked what they should expect the temperature to be like. Someone answered by asking them, “Have you ever been cremated?”

In all seriousness, you do still need to be very cognizant of the heat in the Fall, although it definitely is not nearly as bad as July and August, and there is a bigger chance of rain. There is little relief from the heat in September, but it does tend to mitigate more and more as it gets later in the year. It truly is hit or miss. Some Christmases we are in shorts and sweating while drinking a margarita on the Riverwalk, and sometimes we are in sweaters enjoying the cold. You need to be prepared for everything!

Weather is Still a Huge Consideration for a Fall Wedding

You may get very lucky with comfortably warm, beautiful weather! And it will definitely be cooler at night as Fall progresses. But preparing for the heat is still just as important, as is having a rain plan. Here are some tips to ensure your guests are comfortable:

    1. Timing: Consider scheduling your ceremony and reception for the late afternoon or early evening when temperatures are more likely to be pleasant. This is also the most popular time for capturing those epic Golden Hour and sunset photographs.
    2. Venue Selection: Choose venues with indoor and outdoor options. This allows flexibility in case of unexpected weather changes. If at all possible, choose a venue that has at least a climate-controlled reception area. Preferably one that could also be a backup ceremony location.
    3. Beating the Heat: Provide fans, parasols, or misting stations to keep guests cool. Renting tents or canopies can also provide much-needed shade.
    4. Stopping the Shivers: If there is a rare Fall cold snap, provide comfy blankets, throws, or shawls for guests to wrap in during the ceremony. Rent outdoor heaters, such as propane or electric patio heaters. Offer disposable hand warmers that guests can tuck into their pockets or gloves.
    5. Rain Plan: Work with your planner and venue to develop a rain plan that can be executed quickly if necessary.

    Planning Around Football Season

In Texas, football is not a matter of life and death. It’s far more important than that!

Here’s how to plan around the busy football season:

    1. Check the Schedule: Consult the college football schedules (especially the Texas Longhorns, since their games affect Austin the most) and avoid scheduling your wedding on major game days. This will ensure better attendance and avoid traffic issues with home games.
    2. Accommodations: Book accommodations very early. Hotels fill up quickly during football weekends, so securing room blocks for your guests well in advance is crucial. Hotels in the Dripping Springs and Hill Country area are sparse, so it’s even more important. Consider Air B&Bs and venues that have onsite lodging to avoid lodging issues.
    3. Additional Conflicts: There are other major events in the Austin area in the Fall. For example, this coming Fall one of the biggest football games in the NATION is October 19th, when the Texas Longhorns host the Georgia Bulldogs. But guess what? That’s not the only huge event! The F1 race is the same weekend! It’s pure insanity. Hotel rooms and other lodging have been booked up for months already. Also, take a hard look at the Austin City Limits schedule.
    4. Game Day Alternatives: If you can’t avoid a game day, consider incorporating a viewing area at your reception for football-loving guests. Ask if your venue has televisions in the reception area and getting ready suites.
Regardless of where your loyalties lie, check the Longhorns schedule to avoid lodging and traffic problems in Austin and the Hill Country, because the 100,000+ crowds definitely affect everything. Check YOUR team’s schedule to be sure you don’t directly conflict with the game of the year, no matter where it is!

    Holidays and Events

Fall is also packed with holidays and local events that can impact your wedding planning:

    1. Holiday Conflicts: Avoid dates around major holidays like Thanksgiving, Halloween, Christmas, and New Year’s to ensure more guests can attend. It may also be very difficult to book vendors during major holidays, and some have higher rates.
    2. Local Festivals: Austin and the Hill Country host numerous Fall festivals and events. Fredericksburg Oktoberfest, WurstFest, Pumpkin Patches, Wine Festivals and the aforementioned Austin City Limits are examples. Check local event calendars to avoid date conflicts and potential logistical challenges.

Advantages of a Fall Wedding in Austin and the Texas Hill Country

Despite the potential challenges, Autumn offers numerous benefits for a wedding:

    1. Scenic Beauty: The Texas Hill Country is breathtaking in the fall, with intensely blue skies and some color in the hills, providing a stunning backdrop for your wedding photos.
    2. Pleasant Weather: Cooler temperatures in the evenings allow for more comfortable outdoor ceremonies and receptions, making it an ideal time for alfresco dining and dancing.
    3. Sunsets: With the shorter days and the time change, sunset ceremonies are easier to schedule. And the sunsets tend to be very intense. Cooler receptions after sundown under the stars are magical.
    4. Seasonal Décor: Fall offers a rich palette of colors and seasonal decorations. Think pumpkins, autumn leaves, rustic elements, and cozy accents that add warmth and charm to your Fall wedding.

    Decor and Fall Color Palettes

Decorating for a Fall wedding offers endless opportunities to embrace the season’s natural beauty and warmth. Here are some ideas to inspire your decor choices and color palettes:

    Color Palettes

    1. Rich Autumn Hues: Embrace deep, rich colors such as burgundy, burnt orange, mustard yellow, and forest green. These colors evoke the essence of fall and create a warm, inviting atmosphere.
    2. Elegant Neutrals: Combine warm neutrals like cream, taupe, and caramel with metallic accents in gold or copper for a sophisticated and timeless look.
    3. Jewel Tones: Deep jewel tones like emerald, sapphire, and amethyst add luxury and opulence to your decor.
    4. Rustic Charm: Incorporate earthy tones like terracotta, rust, and olive green to enhance the natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country.

    Fall Wedding Decor Elements

    1. Seasonal Florals: Use seasonal flowers like dahlias, chrysanthemums, and sunflowers, complemented by autumn foliage. Incorporate these into bouquets, centerpieces, and floral arches.
    2. Rustic Accents: Integrate natural elements like wooden signage, barrels, crates, and lanterns to create a rustic, cozy atmosphere. Consider using hay bales for seating or decor.
    3. Pumpkins and Gourds: Decorate with pumpkins, gourds, and squash in various sizes and colors. These can be used as table centerpieces, aisle decor, or even carved with intricate designs. One of our weddings last year used white pumpkins touched with gold and silver leaf. Gorgeous, unique and elegant!
    4. Twinkling Lights: Add a magical touch with string lights, fairy lights, and candles. These create a warm and romantic ambiance, especially for evening weddings.
    5. Cozy Textures: Incorporate cozy textures like wool blankets, plaid table runners, and velvet cushions. These elements not only add warmth but also enhance the rich fall aesthetic.
    6. Vintage Touches: Utilize vintage furniture and decor pieces such as antique mirrors, lace tablecloths, and brass candlesticks to add a touch of elegance and charm.
Absolutely GORGEOUS Fall decor at Pecan Springs Ranch in Austin, Texas. Photo by Jona Christina Photography.

    Personal Touches

    1. Seasonal Favors: Give guests seasonal favors such as mini jars of local honey, homemade jams, or small potted succulents. These can also double as adorable table decor.
    2. Signature Fall Cocktails: Offer a selection of signature fall cocktails like spiced cider, mulled wine, or pumpkin spice drinks. Consult your bartending company for creating custom concoctions.
    3. Comfort Food: Serve comfort foods that reflect the season, such as butternut squash soup, roasted vegetables, pumpkin pie and apple cobbler.

    Halloween

This deserves its own category. If you’re like me, and LIVE for spooky season, go ahead and embrace the Halloween vibe. Whether it’s subtle decor or a full-fledged haunted house or costume party, having a ‘Hallowedding’ is a lot of fun. Chances are, your guests love Halloween also, and will get into it. Look for a venue that lends itself to a Halloween aesthetic and find vendors that love to create the vibe.

Halloween doesn’t necessarily mean all black and orange. Deep purples and burgundies are excellent.

When I was creating cakes, Hallowedding cakes were my specialty. I absolutely LOVED Hallowedding cakes and was sought out by many clients just for that style. I even competed on Food Network’s Halloween Wars…..a dream come true for me.

  • Nine Reasons to Have a Wedding Bubble Exit

Nine Reasons to Have a Wedding Bubble Exit

The Wedding Bubble Exit! A perfect solution? Most couples want and love a dramatic exit, as a big fun exclamation point to end the wedding celebration. It’s also an opportunity to get some incredible photos that you will cherish forever. But many of the popular exits can cause problems, or even harm. Many wedding venues have banned things like confetti, rice, glitter, sparklers, and other props used to create dramatic exits.

We love bubble exits at Rose Haven, especially under the lighting on our Antique Rose Veranda at night! So we counted the ways that we love wedding bubble exits and why they are a perfect solution.

    1. Photogenic

Bubbles create a magical, fairy-tale-like atmosphere, adding a whimsical touch to your wedding photos. The light reflecting off the bubbles as they float in the air can produce stunning visual effects, like iridescent glowing rainbow orbs, enhancing the beauty of the pictures.

    2. Safe and Non-Invasive

Unlike sparklers or other types of pyrotechnics, bubbles are safe and non-invasive. There’s no risk of burns or fire hazards, especially in the dry Texas Hill Country around Austin and Dripping Springs, where we are almost always in a burn ban or warning, and it’s so windy. Many venues don’t allow sparklers for that reason. And guests handling sparklers after drinking all evening can be a recipe for disaster.

    3. Environmentally Friendly

Bubbles are an eco-friendly alternative to confetti, rice, or other traditional exit options that can leave a mess or harm the environment. Most bubble solutions are biodegradable, won’t harm the surrounding area, or stain the venue surfaces.

    4. Cost-Effective

Bubble solutions and bubble blowers are relatively inexpensive compared to other wedding exit options. This makes it a budget-friendly, affordable choice for couples looking to save money while still having a memorable exit.

    5. Zero Clean Up!

Bubbles leave no residue or mess to clean up afterward, unlike confetti, glitter, or flower petals. This makes it easier for the venue staff and ensures that you won’t incur additional cleanup fees. Just make sure your guests dispose of any little bubble wands properly!

    6. Interactive and Fun

Blowing bubbles adds an interactive element, making guests feel more involved and entertained. The guests are literally creating the exit and atmosphere for you! And they are very safe for the guests to handle.

    7. Versatile

Bubbles can be used in various settings, whether it’s an indoor or outdoor wedding. They work well in daylight or at night, making them a versatile option for any wedding theme or time of day. Here is an example of a daytime bubble wedding exit on the front porch of Rose Haven.

    8. Child-Friendly

If you’re having a wedding that includes children, bubbles are a great way to keep the little ones entertained and excited. They’re fun for them to play in and what kid (And big ‘kids’ too!) doesn’t love to blow bubbles? In our most recent bubble exit at Rose Haven, the kids were all laughing and jumping in front of the bubble machine before the couple came out for their exit.

While planning the wedding, don’t forget to plan your honeymoon as well! Sure, everyone wants to jet off overseas for weeks, but that big trip may not be in the budget or the plans right now. My husband and I didn’t get to take our ‘true’ honeymoon until our 19th anniversary, when we spent 9 days in Cabo San Lucas! It’s never too late! We did a little ‘mini-moon’ in South Carolina where we were living at the time.

But you don’t have to fork out a fortune for a beautiful, romantic newlywed vacation, when Texas has SO much to offer for romantic getaways! If you’re getting married here at Rose Haven, or one of our other amazing Dripping Springs venues in the Wedding Capital of Texas, you’re already smack dab in the middle of one of the most romantic honeymoon destinations of all–the Texas Hill Country! But maybe you want to explore further.

So now let’s look at the amazing array of affordable post-wedding trip experiences Texas has to offer!

    Scenic and Outdoor Destinations

    • The Hill Country: Explore wineries, breweries, and charming small towns like Dripping Springs (the ‘Gateway to the Hill Country’), Blanco, Wimberley, Johnson City, and Marble Falls. Enjoy Bluebonnet-filled scenic drives in spring and stunning views over every hill.

    • Palo Duro Canyon: The second-largest canyon in the U.S., great for camping, hiking, and horseback riding.

    • Caddo Lake: One of the true natural beauties of the South. The one and only natural lake in Texas, the cypress trees that give the lake it’s signature bayou look have been estimated to be over 300 years old.
    • Lost Maples State Natural Area: Visit in the fall for one of the few places in Texas with stunning colorful foliage and great hiking trails.
    • Enchanted Rock State Natural Area: Perfect for those into rock climbing, and panoramic views. A challenging hike & climb for sure!

Couples have many reasons to choose a frugal honeymoon destination close to home. Maybe it’s just not in the budget for a big trip, but you still want to steal away to enjoy your first few days of marriage together. Maybe you have other financial goals like buying a house, having a baby, investing in other assets, starting a business, paying off existing debt, or just not adding additional financial pressures.

    Advantages of an affordable honeymoon

An easily-accessible honeymoon destination has a lot of advantages. You can avoid the stress and high cost of air travel, and enjoy scenic drives to your destination. Shorter travel allows for more time to explore the actual destination, and offers opportunity for some spontaneity and flexibility along the way. Local, budget-friendly destinations often provide rich cultural and natural experiences that can be more immersive and authentic compared to luxury resorts and high-end tourist traps in popular vacation areas. And you can support quaint, unique, local businesses while you’re there!

Choosing an affordable honeymoon destination in Texas doesn’t mean you have to miss out on quality or fun. With some smart planning, you and your love can enjoy a fantastic, memorable trip without going overboard.

Contact us for a venue that helps keep your honeymoon budget intact!

  • Planning the Perfect Rehearsal Dinner in the Austin and Texas Hill Country Area

Planning the Perfect Rehearsal Dinner in the Austin and Texas Hill Country Area

Let’s talk about planning the perfect rehearsal dinner that fits your style and helps make your wedding day flow smoothly. Over the last decade of creating cakes for weddings in the Texas Hill Country, Austin and Dripping Springs areas, I’ve seen thousands of weddings and been involved in many rehearsal dinners as well. As you start planning for your big day, don’t forget about the many smaller celebrations leading up to your wedding. One of the most important is the rehearsal dinner. This is where you’ll rehearse your wedding ceremony, and then celebrate with your closest family and friends before the wedding.

How to Plan Your Perfect Rehearsal

The first step in planning a rehearsal dinner is to determine the guest list. Typically, the guest list includes immediate family members, wedding party members, close friends, and out-of-town guests. Will it be a small, intimate affair, or do you have a lot of out of town guests you’d like to include? Make sure to send out invitations well in advance to give guests enough time to RSVP. Cute themed invitations help make the occasion even more special and exciting for your guests!

wedding, venue,

Traditionally, the rehearsal is a walk-through of the ceremony at the actual ceremony site so that all members of the families and wedding party will know their roles in the wedding ceremony and work out any last-minute adjustments to help make the actual ceremony flow flawlessly. Some wedding venues even include rehearsal time in their packages.

In the recent past, it has become more difficult to have the rehearsal at the wedding venue, as many venues are booked for another wedding or event the day before the wedding. In that case, the practice may be done at another location that has enough space to mimic the actual ceremony site. The actual rehearsal can even be on a different day to have access to the wedding venue, and the dinner held the night before the wedding at another venue.

Next, choose your venue for your rehearsal dinner.

First, you’ll want to decide the ‘vibe’ you want for your rehearsal dinner. Do you want it to complement or maybe contrast with the theme of the wedding? Choose a venue that works with the ambiance you want, or one that is so versatile it can be anything you’d like with simple décor accents.

In Austin, Dripping Springs, and the Hill Country, there’s an abundance of fun and funky restaurants, breweries, distilleries and wineries that are popular rehearsal dinner choices. The drawback to many of these venues is they are not private, which can make them crowded, noisy, and cause difficulty finding parking. Downtown Austin venues often have no parking at all. Also many of them are not climate-controlled, and with the Texas weather being so unpredictable–and often very uncomfortable with the typical heat and strong winds for most of the year–as well as sudden thunderstorms which can even bring lightning, hail and tornadoes. Carefully considering a weather plan is mandatory!

A true private, climate-controlled, affordable rehearsal dinner venue with free, adequate parking, is rare in the Austin, Dripping Springs and Hill Country areas. That’s one major reason I wanted to design a venue that was perfect for the rehearsal dinners, showers, and other events leading up to weddings that eliminated the drawbacks associated with the public venues. I saw so many of my former wedding cake clients and favorite wedding planners struggling to find affordable, versatile, well-designed venues for the smaller events. Thus the idea for Rose Haven was born, and it took me over three years to find the perfect venue for these types of events.

    Choose Your Cuisine

Most couples want the cuisine at the rehearsal dinner to be different from the menu of the wedding, to allow the wedding catering to shine on its own with no redundancy.

Is your wedding going to be a fancy plated dinner? Maybe you want to have a true Texas Barbecue in contrast. Or are you going with traditional barbecue at the wedding? Maybe consider Italian, Mediterranean, or Asian cuisine for the rehearsal dinner. Is the budget tight and you’re looking for an affordable option? Some of the most cost-effective catering options are fajita bars, pasta bars, pizza, and spaghetti.

Consider a theme and match the cuisine to it:
Having a fiesta? Tacos would be perfect.
Hawaiian luau? Make it a tropical treat!
Nautical theme? Seafood is the natural catch.
Mardi Gras? Cajun would be perfect, I GAR-ON-TEE!
Love to Travel? Around the world samplings of ethnic cuisines
Breakfast at Tiffany’s? Who doesn’t love breakfast for dinner? Omelet stations, French toast, waffles……
Bridgerton? Let’s have afternoon tea, or a feast fit for a king!
Lord of the Rings? “Meat’s back on the menu, boys!” (Sorry, couldn’t resist!)

Will your venue allow family to bring in their own food? At Rose Haven, one of our couples’ theme for their rehearsal dinner is ‘Family Recipes’. They are asking each guest to bring a homemade dish of their favorite recipe and to gift a written recipe of that dish to the couple, who will compile a cookbook of family recipes for them to cherish forever. I LOVE that idea!

Many restaurant locations have mandatory food and beverage minimums, and lock you in to one type of cuisine. That’s great if it’s your favorite restaurant anyway! But if your favorite restaurant doesn’t have an ideal space, another alternative is to have them cater the meal at another venue that has an open vendor policy for catering, like Rose Haven does. This can be more affordable than dining at the actual restaurant as well. Look for a private venue that will allow you to cater in any cuisine you would like. Don’t forget to consider any dietary restrictions or preferences when selecting the menu for the evening!

A big consideration is the beverage package. Bar tabs can add up quickly, and minimums are commonplace at most venues. Many couples are looking for venues where they can BYOB to help control costs, and that can be very difficult to find. Also, please be considerate of your guests that avoid alcohol (as well as any underage guests). Offer ‘mocktails’ or other popular non-alcoholic selections so that they have plenty of choices as well. Water and iced tea are a must! Rose Haven allows BYOB and also has an in house bartending partner, Peak Beverage, who provides outstanding service at very reasonable pricing, and awesome mocktails too.

Next, plan the details of the rehearsal dinner.

When it comes to decorations and ambiance, how do you want it to feel and look? You can use floral arrangements, candles, string lights, or personalized signage to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Balloon sculptures are wildly popular and create big impact at cost-effective pricing. Consider incorporating elements from your wedding theme into the decor to tie everything together seamlessly and save money by repurposing decor.

Entertainment is also an important aspect of planning your perfect rehearsal dinner. This is the time to have some fun, as the rehearsal dinner is meant to be relaxed and enjoyable for everyone involved. You can hire live musicians or DJs for energy and engagement, or curate your own playlist for the perfect background music.

There will likely be lots of toasts and speeches, so be sure you have an adequate sound system and microphone so everyone hears and enjoys every word. Consider the acoustics of your venue and the ambient noise you may have to overcome if in a public venue. Rose Haven was formerly a historical Texas dancehall that featured many types of bands and performers, so we have an acoustical ceiling that enhances both speeches and the music!

Ideas for an Epic Rehearsal Dinner

Definitely plan some fun activities like games or photo booths to keep guests engaged throughout the evening. Think outside the box, like maybe having a karaoke night after dinner, arcade games, a cornhole tournament, bouncy house for the kids (and big kids), lawn games, trivia and more! Make sure your venue has enough space and privacy to accommodate your ideas. Choosing a venue with both climate-controlled and outside spaces makes it much easier to plan epic activities.

A slideshow of the couple and their friends and family is always a big hit, and can be playing on a continuous loop during dinner. This brings many smiles, laughter, and memories. And it’s a great way to honor those who are no longer with you. Check to see if the venue has available TVs or screens you can access.

Another idea is to have a fun, themed, Food-Network-worthy cake at the rehearsal dinner instead of the wedding. You’re paying for some kind of dessert anyway, so that budget could be reallocated to an ‘impact’ cake that also doubles as a décor centerpiece, plus it frees up some of the wedding day budget. ALL of your guests watch and enjoy the cake TV shows, so it’s often the biggest hit of an event that guests talk about for years to come!

One of our recent rehearsal dinners used a wild, lit-up limousine service from Limos On Demand for the bride, groom, and wedding party to go out after the dinner for more time on the town! It was so crazy cool and different!

    RELAX and have fun!

Rehearsal dinners are a great opportunity to have a blast and work out some of those pre-wedding jitters. Planning the perfect rehearsal dinner doesn’t have to add more stress to your wedding planning. If you have a wedding planner, they will help you plan the rehearsal dinner as well. Look to your venue for help in planning. Lean on their preferred vendor lists and trust their expertise. Your vendors want you to be ecstatically happy with their services, and to help you create memories to last a lifetime!

    Unboxing Kitty Teapots!

UNBOXING!!! What do we have here? Join me in discovering the treasures I found in an online garage sale.

I scored a box of cat-themed teapots, and knew they would be perfect for our Tea With Kittens fundraiser coming up later this year. So I bought them, and then had fun unpacking the box to see what we got!

If you’ve known me for more than 5 seconds, you know I’m obsessed with cats. I LOVE cats, everything about cats. And cat rescue is the cause most near and dear to my heart. I try to support as many wonderful, deserving rescues as I can.

Last year, my dear friend Kyla, who is a neo-natal kitten foster, approached me with the idea of doing a fundraiser in a Tea With Kittens theme. The neo-natal kittens are tiny, many only hours or a few days old, and are some of the most vulnerable and fragile cases in rescue. They have very special medical needs. We wanted to raise money to purchase desperately-needed medical supplies to help save these precious, tiny little lives. Kyla works MIRACLES in saving the kittens in her care. Sadly, there is much heartbreak, as some just can’t be saved despite heroic efforts. But she’s an angel, enabling many kittens that would have died within hours to grow up to live happy, healthy lives blessing their furever families with their love.

Our inaugural Tea With Kittens fundraiser last year, on September 10, was a huge success! Yes! You actually got to pet kittens while enjoying High Tea! We not only raised over $2200 in funds, but also had many generous people donate medical supplies and other needs through our Amazon Wish List. Guests adopted cats on the spot and new people signed up to foster cats!

We learned a few things about logistics the hard way, as we had issues with too many people showing up for certain time slots for the teas, and got crushed for a while there. We were thrilled at the amazing turnout! But we definitely need to spread things out a bit more, so we’ll have a better schedule this year. We are working on bringing a VERY special guest to our fundraiser this year, so the date is currently not set. We are hoping for the late summer, early fall timeframe. If we are successful, then we’ll have a BIG announcement. Stay tuned!

A sweet scene from last year’s Tea With Kittens fundraiser at Rose Haven Event Venue.

Yes, I had just gotten home from the gym, so pardon the workout clothes.  I did this at home so my husband could film it. And sweet Blossom, our big chonk of a cat, got in on the action.
